The ASHE ARTS CENTER, an historic 1938 WPA building,is the hub of the arts
district in downtown West Jefferson. The Arts Center is the home of the
Ashe County Arts Council and houses its administrative offices as well as
The Gallery and Gallery Shop. The Ashe County Arts Council offers a wide
array of arts services including a community concert series, school arts
programs and artist residencies, ARTS/DATES (a bi-monthly newsletter
highlighting the arts), Spring Fest and the Very Special Arts Festival,
Studio Hop and Art on the Side, Gallery Crawl, the High Country Handbell
Festival, children's arts activities at the Christmas in July Festival, the
Junior Appalachian Musicians Program or JAM, and numerous services to
artists and community arts organizations.

The Gallery of the Ashe Arts Center features the visual arts work of local
and regional artists. Eight exhibits each year include paintings,
photography, sculpture, and crafts. The exhibits change approximately every
six weeks, the schedule of exhibits can be found on the Arts Council's
website at www.ashecountyarts.org. The Gallery Shop features the work of
over five dozen artists. Pottery, wood crafts, quilts, woven ware, note
cards, books, cds and tapes, Christmas ornaments, photography, baskets, iron
works, and more are all included in this charming setting.

West Jefferson's "Arts District" is a unique experience! Downtown murals,
art galleries and craft shops, quaint gathering places are anchored by the
Ashe Arts Center, "the hub of the arts." For information about the Ashe
