The 1st Annual Barbeque Festival
will be held on Friday, September 2 and Saturday, September
3, 2005 at the stunning Ashe County Park nestled in the Blue
Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The Festival is a Kansas
City Barbeque Society nationally sanctioned cook-off
competition and festival.
This is not your typical tailgate barbeque event. This is a
major national event complete with professional barbeque
teams from around the US competing for prize money and
trophies. These events are managed and run according to a
set of organizational rules and include professional judges.
In addition to barbeque contestants, some of whom will be
selling their competition barbecue; there will be a limited
number of other food vendors on site. There will be an arts
and crafts area with local and regional artists selling
handmade items. A children’s area will also be available,
providing a site for children to play and have fun.
Regional musicians will provide live music throughout the
event ranging from blues, jazz, rock, gospel, and bluegrass.
Mission:
Our mission is to provide
operating funds to various non-profit organizations in Ashe
County by planning and staging an Annual Barbeque Festival
each Labor Day weekend. This Festival will feature a
competition cook-off between various BBQ cooking teams and
will be sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, a
national organization. It will also include various music
forms and local hand-made crafts. It is our goal to aid the
region through tourism and to help various spin-off
businesses.
