Education

The Ashe County School system consists of three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The total student enrollment is approximately 3,200.

The Ashe County School system has a tradition of excellence in academics, student activities and athletics. Proudly, all of the schools are recognized as high performing schools with two schools identified as Honor Schools of Excellence as defined by the state ABC plan. The system offers a variety of activities designed to reach all children. In addition, the system provides a wide variety of athletic programs and has an award-winning high school band program. Ashe County boasts one of the highest numbers of National Board Certified Teachers in the state with 38 or 15%.

If you need to transfer your child into the Ashe County School System, please bring a certified birth certificate and immunization records as well as proof of address. Report cards and recent standardized test results are also helpful.

Ashe County is also home to a branch of Wilkes Community College (WCC), which offers a variety of technical, vocational and college transfer programs. Additionally, Appalachian State University is a 45 minute drive from Ashe County.
